Wi-Fi provider Andrena raised $18 million to develop a decentralized broadband service, utilizing a decentralized autonomous wireless network (DAWN). The network eliminates the need for a centralized internet provider, offering mesh internet access using rooftop base stations.
Andrena incorporates blockchain technology for token incentives in its decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN). Customers can earn tokens by connecting to the broadband network and referring friends, which they can use to purchase internet bandwidth.
Andrena's unique business model allows customers to access decentralized broadband without the need to purchase equipment. Neil Chatterjee, Andrena's co-founder and CEO, highlighted the self-sustainability of the system, which can be activated through software without the need for physical installation.
The decentralized broadband service by Andrena includes access points shared among residents, eliminating the need for individual equipment in each unit. Wired connectivity is provided through a mailed device, but the majority of users opt for wireless connections.
