"So I go into the bathroom, and I'm on the phone with the ABC executives, and they say, 'Listen, we want to take the temperature down. We're concerned about what you're going to say tonight,'"
"I thought, 'That's it, it's over, it is over,' 'I'm never coming back on the air. That's really what I thought.'"
"They were loaded and in their seats, ready for the show,"
"Oh, wait. I didn't know that your audience was already loaded."
ABC/Disney notified Jimmy Kimmel at 3 p.m. that executives wanted to 'take the temperature down' and were concerned about what he would say during the 4:30 p.m. taping. The network suggested taking the show off the air, prompting belief that the program was finished. The live audience was already seated, and production sent them home but proceeded to tape the episode. The program had been suspended Sept. 17 after FCC chair Brendan Carr criticized Kimmel's comments about the killing of Charlie Kirk. Disney reinstated the show on Sept. 23 following substantial backlash.
