Saturday Night Live Recap: A Skarsgard Family Affair
"Despite his leading man good looks and general typecasting in brooding, self-serious, macho roles, Alexander Skarsgård is a big-time goofy weirdo. Don't believe me? His first-ever film role was a bit part in , in which he perished in a freak gasoline accident. He pops up randomly in comedy nerd favorites Documentary Now!and Drunk History. He's shown up to red carpets in Farrah Fawcett drag, in his tighty-whities, and in a prom-themed photoshoot alongside his longtime best friend/life companion Jack McBrayer."
"The cold open, starring Pete Davidson as White House Border Czar Tom Homan meeting with ICE agents played by Kenan Thompson, James Austin Johnson, Mikey Day, Ben Marshall, Andrew Dismukes, and Jeremy Culhane, had some solid moments. Jeremy Culhane's ICE agent asking "How come all the fast food in this city tastes like spit?" and Homan's response to a question about the Epstein files ("We actually just released those to distract from this, which is ironic, because we did this to distract from those,") are high points."
Alexander Skarsgård contrasts his brooding screen persona with an offbeat, goofy public persona and varied comedic appearances. Early bit parts and unexpected red carpet antics demonstrate a willingness to be silly and provocative. SNL brought him on as host, and the episode attempted to confront the ongoing Minneapolis crisis. Writers and performers aimed for satire but achieved mixed results. The cold open, featuring Pete Davidson as Tom Homan and several ICE agents, delivered memorable lines and moments. Some sketches risked reframing controversial figures as reasonable while still containing standout comic beats.
