Ontario Premier Doug Ford's government is moving ahead with its plan to create so-called special economic zones to push forward projects it deems important, and is considering including "moon shot" ideas to qualify. The power to designate parts of the province as special economic zones was created in the controversial Bill 5, a law the government says is necessary to speed up construction of large infrastructure projects, particularly mines, in a time of global economic uncertainty.

Peel police say they arrested and charged a former union branch representative for allegedly misappropriating more than $100,000 in union funds. Mark Babcook, the former branch president of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) Local 228, was charged with fraud over $5000 and possession of property obtained by crime, police said in a news release Wednesday. Babcook, 41, was arrested on Sept. 19. The arrest came after OPSEU conducted its own internal investigation and contacted Peel Regional Police with evidence that led to a criminal investigation, police said.

Service between several Line 2 and on Line 1 subway stations in Toronto are temporarily shut down Tuesday morning due to a fire at Bloor-Yonge station, said the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) on social media. Shuttle buses will be running between St George and Broadview stations on Line 2 and Rosedale and College on Line 1, said the TTC. It said shuttle buses will not be stopping at Bloor-Yonge Station.
Lately, the Sharks have been one of the main teams that the Leafs like to deal with and make trades with. The "Let Kids Be Kids" rally, organized by the Association for Reformed Political Action (ARPA), called for an end to gender-affirming care for minors, including puberty blockers, hormone therapy and genital surgery some of which isn't currently available for people under 18 in Canada. Crown attorneys are reviewing assault charges laid by police against a Lindsay, Ont., man accused of attacking a home invader last month after an overnight break-in. A prosecutor on Thursday told Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay part of the city of Kawartha Lakes the Crown is reviewing evidence and still needs to "make its determinations about how the matter will proceed."
