Alek Manoah posted a strong 2021 rookie year with a 2.9 bWAR, 127 strikeouts and a 3.22 ERA across 20 games, finishing eighth in AL Rookie of the Year voting. Manoah reached the 2022 All-Star Game, struck out three batters there, won 16 games with a 2.24 ERA and finished third in AL Cy Young voting. Manoah struggled in 2023 with a 5.87 ERA in 19 games. An elbow injury in June 2024 required Tommy John surgery. As of September 2025 he is beginning a return to the major leagues, with statistical comparisons to former Blue Jays ace Ricky Romero and hopes to surpass Romero's career arc.
However, since 2023, Manoah has struggled. He pitched to a 5.87 ERA in 19 games in 2023. In June 2024, Manoah suffered an elbow injury that required Tommy John Surgery. Now in September of 2025, as Manoah starts to work his way back again to the major leagues, as he did in 2024, only this time it's from an injury and not related to performance.
One player whose career Manoah has replicated stats wise thus far has been former Blue Jays ace, Ricky Romero and for both Manoah and the Blue Jays sake, they are hoping that the rest of Manoah's career exceeds that of Romero's. In 2009, Romero made his MLB debut for the Blue Jays, winning 13 games and recording a 4.30 ERA.
