Briefly

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow has taken action to prevent the immediate removal of several tiny mobile homes created for the unhoused by Ryan Donais of Tiny Tiny Homes, located in St. James Park. After receiving a cease and desist letter informing him of the structures' unlawful occupancy of city property, the mayor's office indicated they are seeking a resolution that prioritizes providing safe housing. Chow's office stressed the importance of keeping people indoors during cold weather while acknowledging the legal concerns surrounding the installation's impact on public space and safety.
"Everyone deserves a safe place to call home—no one should be sleeping out in the cold," said Zeus Eden, press secretary for Mayor Chow.
The City does not condone and cannot permit the installation of these structures for occupation on City property, acknowledges the letter from city lawyers.
City lawyers indicated that the structures interfere with the public's right to use city parks, raising health and safety concerns that need to be addressed.
Mayor Olivia Chow's office is actively seeking a resolution with Tiny Tiny Homes' Ryan Donais, emphasizing the goal to provide safe housing for the unhoused.
