Peel police have seized more firearms in 2024 than in all previous years combined, with the latest operation resulting in the arrest of five individuals linked to drug trafficking.
The group was identified after a traffic stop led to significant investigations, revealing links to serious crimes including carjackings, home invasions, and armed robberies that impacted the Greater Toronto Area.
The raid resulted in the confiscation of 11 firearms, including a submachine gun and assault rifles, highlighting the ongoing problem of illegal firearms and drug-related violence in the region.
Police said four firearms were traced to the United States, indicating cross-border firearm trafficking, while the effort to tackle this issue continues to intensify.
