The Toronto Marlies secured a hard-fought victory against the San Diego Gulls despite some inconsistencies. They started the game energetically, dominating San Diego with high tempo and early shots on goal. Key players like Zach Solow and Alex Steeves showcased their offensive skills, contributing to scoring chances. However, there were moments where San Diego managed to stay within reach. In the crucial third period, the Marlies tightened their play, resulting in decisive goals, propelled by their better execution and superior pacing as stated by coach John Gruden.
I thought there were a lot of good moments in our game leading up to the third period. For the most part, we started well. We were predictable and moved pucks quickly. In the third period, we really locked it in even more when we had to. We scored some nice goals as well.
The Marlies played at a high tempo from the opening puck drop and dominated the Gulls, outshooting San Diego 4-0 through the first six minutes.
