After practice, head coach Craig Berube emphasized the importance of execution for the Nylander-Tavares-Marner line, which will be reevaluated in Saturday's game. He applauded Pontus Holmberg's strength in maintaining puck control, which aids his ability to draw penalties. Berube also assessed Auston Matthews’ performance amidst his five-game goalless streak, noting that while he hasn't scored, he's still creating significant scoring chances. The focus of practice was to keep players moving and engaged before the upcoming game.
I think he is playing pretty well. He had six shots last night, and three or four of them were very dangerous opportunities, so he's definitely in the right spots. We just need him to score, and I'm sure he will.
It is the way [Pontus Holmberg] can hang onto pucks. He is strong on the puck down low in the offensive zone. It is hard to get it off of him, and he draws a lot of penalties that way.
Execution, more than anything... there were some times when [Nylander-Tavares-Marner line] had good situations set up, but they didn't execute it.
We just wanted to get on the ice, touch the ice a little bit, move the puck, get the guys up and moving a little bit.
