The Last of Us is building on its successful first season by developing characters in-depth for its second season. It has been confirmed that showrunners Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin plan to adapt The Last of Us Part II across multiple seasons. Recent casting announcements indicate an array of new and reimagined characters, expanding the storyline. Specifically, character Eugene, who appears only in a photograph in the game, will have a more developed role in the show, reminiscent of the impactful storytelling seen in Season 1's standout episode featuring Bill and Frank.
Eugene is only seen via photograph in game, but Variety suggests the role "will be expanded on the show, similar to the Emmy-winning Bill and Frank stand-alone episode from Season 1."
The Last of Us is certainly taking its time. Season 1 fleshed out the already cinematic video game by introducing new villains and giving minor side characters heartwrenching tales of their own.
