Linda Mangalathu's modest basement flood escalated into a disastrous situation, forcing her to evacuate her home in Scarborough after the city's assessment deemed it unsafe. The trouble started on April 29, leading to excavation and increasing financial burdens, with bills approaching $50,000. Despite efforts to find the source of the water, the family was displaced due to knee-deep flooding and structural concerns, highlighting the emotional toll and immense stress of the situation.
"Financially, emotionally, I'm stressed. I'm not able to sleep; it's heartbreaking," says Mangalathu, who's lived in the Morningside-Highway 401 area house for 26 years.
Mangalathu's problems began on April 29, when her son Shane noticed water coming up through the shower drain, leading to extensive excavation work in the front yard.
