In November 2024, of the 803,100 vacation rental unit nights available, only 388,800 nights were booked, a decrease of 2.4% compared to 2023 and a staggering 38.3% drop from 2019.
'From our own experience as owners and operators of Airbnb units at the Luana Waikiki, we can confirm that the demand has indeed dropped considerably over the past few months,' said Bruce Fisher, travel adviser and owner of Hawaii Aloha Travel.
'As many of our fellow hoteliers and industry partners have noted, travelers seem more price-sensitive than ever, and high nightly rates may be prompting them to choose alternative destinations,' Fisher added.
'Monthly vacation rental ADR was higher than 2023 and much higher than 2019,' said Jennifer Chun, the Hawaii director of tourism research, emphasizing the rising prices of vacation rentals.
