Vegas airport passengers in decline as Delta cuts Bay Area flight
"In the latest air travel news, financially desperate Spirit Airlines faces a new challenge from low-cost rival Frontier's latest route expansion; Delta adds premium economy seats to some SFO-JFK flights but is set to cut a Bay Area route to Las Vegas this winter; Delta is also reviving Israel service next week and terminating code-sharing with Italy's ITA; JetBlue adds one European airline but drops another as a partner in its TrueBlue loyalty program; Southwest unveils a new interline partnership with a second Asian airline,"
"Adding to Spirit's concerns was an announcement from low-cost rival Frontier Airlines this week that it plans to add 20 new routes from November through February as part of a strategy to make itself "the #1 low fare carrier in the top 20 U.S. metros." The new routes will be from Baltimore/Washington, Charlotte, Dallas-Fort Worth, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, and Houston to various points in the eastern U.S., Central America and Mexico, with fares starting as low as $29 one way."
Spirit Airlines is under heightened pressure as rival Frontier plans 20 new routes overlapping much of Spirit's network, increasing competition on leisure routes. Delta is adjusting transcontinental service with premium-economy additions on some SFO-JFK flights, cutting a Bay Area–Las Vegas route this winter, reviving Israel service, and ending a codeshare with Italy's ITA. JetBlue is revising European partners in its TrueBlue program. Southwest launched another Asian interline partner, added a Caribbean destination, and tightened seating policy for customers of size. Alaska added ID verification to automated bag drops. Premium-cabin demand is rising faster than economy, and O'Hare began a $1.3 billion satellite concourse.
