The UK is in initial talks with Indonesia regarding the repatriation of Reynhard Sinaga, who was imprisoned for drugging and raping 48 men. Sinaga, sentenced to a minimum of 30 years, is considered the most prolific rapist in British legal history. Indonesian officials emphasize their obligation to protect citizens, even those convicted of crimes abroad. The exact terms of the repatriation, including a possible prisoner transfer or exchange, are yet to be determined. Additionally, discussions about repatriating another notorious figure, Hambali, are also underway.
"It's not an easy job for us," he said, adding there are many things that need to be negotiated with the British government.
"No matter how wrong a citizen is, the country has the obligation to defend its citizen," Yusril said.
Sinaga targeted young men who looked drunk or vulnerable and rendered them unconscious with a sedative.
The rape investigation was the largest in British legal history.
