Shazad Khan, 41, an ice cream seller, was attacked in his van in Monks Park, Wembley, on the evening of 19 August. He was approached by a man who engaged him in discussion, and after moving off was approached again and exchanged words. The defendant allegedly produced a large knife concealed down his trousers and stabbed Khan in the right side of his chest, causing catastrophic injuries. Witnesses saw the defendant cut Khan's throat and repeatedly stab the left side of his body while Khan lay on the ground, fracturing several ribs. Emergency services were unable to save Khan. Zaher Zaarour, 26, was arrested, charged with murder and possession of a blade, and remanded at the Old Bailey.

Witnesses allegedly saw the defendant cut Mr Khan's throat and repeatedly stab the left side of his body with "severe force", the Old Bailey heard. Mr Hallam said the stab wounds were "consistent with a focused and intense attack while Mr Khan was on the ground and the defendant was over him". During the attack, a number of Mr Khan's ribs were fractured, he added.
