A recent UNICEF report reveals that sexual violence, particularly rape, is being employed as a strategy of warfare in Sudan, violating international laws and protections for children. Since the onset of the conflict in April 2023, at least 221 children have fallen victim, with some as young as one year old. The report highlights that two-thirds of the survivors are girls and also notes instances of attempted sexual assault. The ongoing war, between military and paramilitary forces, has resulted in widespread displacement and numerous atrocities, including forced marriages and rampant sexual violence against minors.

Catherine Russell highlighted that in 2024 alone, there have been alarming reports of rape involving children, with many being as young as one year old.
