Ron and Margaret Nicholls, both elderly, have been living in temporary accommodation for over a year following an arson fire that damaged their Rainham bungalow. The couple claim their insurance provider, AA Home Insurance, has largely ignored their efforts to resolve the situation. Despite the temporary bungalow being comfortable, they express feelings of isolation due to its distance from their friends and community in Rainham. They participate in local church activities to socialize, yet long for the familiarity of their previous home and the support of their neighborhood.
Ron told the Recorder: "It got to July before the insurance company allowed a covering to go over it [the roof of the property]. ... It does take a toll on us."
Ron said: "It's a very nice bungalow don't get us wrong. It's clean, it's a nice area, so there are no problems in that respect. But it's not home is it?"
