Total UK footfall decreased by 0.4% year-on-year in July, improving slightly from a 1.8% decline in June. High Street footfall decreased by 1.7%, while Retail Park footfall saw a 1.7% increase. Shopping Centre footfall decreased by 0.3%, but Wales experienced a 0.4% increase. England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland saw declines of 0.3%, 1.3%, and 3.0%, respectively. Chief Executive Helen Dickinson noted the lack of expected summer shopper boosts. However, cities like Manchester, Birmingham, and Leeds showed improved store visit numbers, with retail parks performing notably well.

Footfall in Wales saw a 0.4% increase compared to the previous year, while footfall declined YoY for all other nations: down 0.3% in England.
Helen Dickinson, Chief Executive of the BRC, said, 'July failed to bring about the summer boost in shoppers many retailers had hoped for.'
Retail parks continued to outperform other destinations, with some seeing big brands opening new outlets.
