Briefly

Claire Butler, a 48-year-old senior lecturer at Plymouth University, was killed in a violent incident near her apartment. Following her death, a man known to her, Paul Antony Butler, was arrested for murder. Friends and former students have expressed their shock and sorrow, praising her kindness and impact as a mentor. Ms. Butler had a significant career in nursing education, ultimately becoming associate head of the School for Internationalisation. Police announced they would refer the case to a watchdog due to previous contact with the victim prior to her death.
Claire was my neighbour. I'm still in shock. She was a beautiful woman. It's really, really sad.
She was a kind, clever, sassy, warm and so funny. Beautiful inside and out, adored her grandchildren.
Claire was my personal tutor and genuinely helped me through some truly difficult times. She was truly one of the most kind-hearted souls you'd ever meet.
Devon and Cornwall Police will refer itself to the police watchdog due to prior contact with Ms Butler.
