Britain's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has controversially censored essential cybersecurity guidance for barristers, solicitors, and legal firms, removing it from its public website without prior notice. The deleted guidance, which included tips to enhance cybersecurity, had been available for only a few months but was deemed necessary after significant cyber-attack reports against UK legal firms. Despite inquiries, NCSC did not clarify the reasons for this removal, raising concerns over transparency and the ongoing threat posed to legal professionals from various cybercriminal activities.
According to the Bar Council, "barristers in England and Wales face threats, harassment, and intimidation... The Bar Council is concerned by the rising reports from members who have faced different forms of attack and threats because of their international legal work."
