Starmer 'really pleased' about UK Supreme Court trans ruling
Briefly

Keir Starmer supported the UK Supreme Court ruling that defines 'woman' and 'sex' in the 2010 Equality Act as biological categories. The unanimous decision stated that transgender women are not included in the legal definition of a woman, raising concerns over implications for trans individuals in areas like inclusion and single-sex spaces. While the ruling doesn't strip protections against discrimination for trans individuals, it has prompted policy changes, particularly in law enforcement and NHS practices, aiming to align with the court's findings. Prime Minister hailed the ruling for providing clarity on these definitions.
The unanimous decision of this court is that the terms woman and sex in the Equality Act refer to a biological woman and biological sex.
I welcome the decision of the Supreme Court, which has given us much-needed clarity, and I think for those now drawing up guidance, it's a much clearer position.
