UKIP's new logo appears to feature 'Nazi' symbol
""UKIP: The New Right.""
""features the holy lance, the Eucharist and the Cross Pattée, to show UKIP's commitment to reinstate Christianity into the heart of government""
""It is outright offensive, ignorant and Christophobic to suggest that the Cross Pattée is a 'Nazi symbol'.""
""UKIP go completely mask off. The cross is obviously the huge red flag but a f****** weapon on a political party logo? Don't forget the axe and sticks is the reason we call these vermin fascists.""
UKIP filed two applications with the Electoral Commission to change its logo for Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The proposed emblem features a cross pattée in front of a spear and shield with text reading "UKIP: The New Right." Social media users compared the symbol to the Iron Cross used by Prussia, the German Empire and Nazi Germany, noting the Iron Cross's association with neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups and its designation as a hate symbol by the Anti-Defamation League. The cross pattée itself has medieval Christian origins. A UKIP spokesperson said the logo features the holy lance, the Eucharist and the Cross Pattée to show commitment to reinstate Christianity into government and called suggestions it is a Nazi symbol "outright offensive, ignorant and Christophobic." Online reactions criticized the imagery and linked it to fascist sympathies. UKIP has yet to announce or confirm a final decision.
