The chief constable of West Midlands Police faces demands to be sacked after Maccabi Tel Aviv fans were banned from an Aston Villa match on safety grounds. The force cited intelligence about previous Maccabi behaviour and potential local threats, including so-called vigilante groups, as justification for the ban. MPs and the Board of Deputies of British Jews criticised the decision and questioned the evidence, with a Dutch police letter appearing to challenge cited incidents. The chief constable maintained the decision was not politically influenced and defended the accuracy of the intelligence used by the Safety Advisory Group.
