Luis Arce announced he will not seek re-election in Bolivia's upcoming presidential election, citing concerns about splitting the leftist vote and enabling right-wing factions. Concurrently, the country's constitutional court ruled against Evo Morales, preventing him from pursuing a fourth presidential term despite his assertive response on social media. These decisions introduce significant uncertainty into a presidential race characterized by political upheaval and a lack of clear contenders, marking a new phase for Bolivia's political landscape.
Today I firmly inform the Bolivian people of my decision to decline my candidacy for presidential re-election in the elections next August. I do so with the clearest conviction that I will not be a factor in dividing the popular vote, much less facilitate the making of a fascist right-wing project that seeks to destroy the plurinational state.
Only the people can ask me to decline my candidacy. We will obey the mandate of the people to save Bolivia, once again.
