Trump Depicted Getting Spanked by Justice Roberts in Utterly Savage Magazine Cover
"Had Congress intended to convey the distinct and extraordinary power to impose tariffs, Roberts noted in the ruling, it would have done so expressly."
"The Week noted this scathing line in their cover story on the decision, under the headline 'A Supreme spanking.' Alongside these words, a resolute Roberts is drawn with left hand raised, the other steadying a screaming President Trump."
"Yet despite The Week's image of a Trump suitably restrained by the court, the president quickly instituted a 10% tariff on goods from every country effective almost immediately after the ruling before upping the ante on his retribution for countries, bumping the tariffs up to 15%."
The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice John Roberts, ruled in February that President Trump's emergency tariffs were illegal, striking down a key economic policy. Roberts stated that if Congress intended to grant such tariff authority, it would have done so explicitly. The Week magazine mocked the ruling with a cover depicting Trump being spanked by Roberts. Despite the decision, Trump quickly imposed a 10% tariff on all countries, later increasing it to 15%. Trump expressed anger at the ruling, calling it ridiculous and claiming shame in the justices. Twenty-four states subsequently sued to block these new tariffs, and the White House has not yet responded to the legal challenge.
