On Monday, President Trump dismissed over a dozen employees from the Department of Justice due to their involvement in prosecutions against him by former Special Counsel Jack Smith. One prosecution was related to Trump's retention of classified documents, while the other centered on attempts to overturn the 2020 election. Acting Attorney General James McHenry informed the employees that their roles were untenable due to their significant participation in Trump's prosecutions, affecting trust within the DOJ's leadership. Trump reiterated his belief that the prior administration weaponized the DOJ against political adversaries.
It is apparent that the previous administration engaged in a systematic campaign against its perceived political opponents, weaponizing the legal force of numerous Federal law enforcement agencies.
In a letter to the employees, McHenry described the terminations as essential for the leadership of the Department to trust its subordinates in implementing the President’s agenda.
