11-year-old Conn. girl starved to death. Court records reveal chilling allegations.
"No child should ever have to endure such suffering,"
"Obviously the allegations are horrific and what happened to this child is horrific,"
An 11-year-old Connecticut girl, Jacqueline "Mimi" Torres-Garcia, died of fatal child abuse by starvation. Her remains were discovered inside a plastic bin on Oct. 8. Investigators allege she was denied food for two weeks and frequently restrained with zip ties. Months after her death, another child impersonated her during a video call with the state child welfare agency. Karla Garcia, the girl's 29-year-old mother, and two others were arrested and charged with murder, cruelty to a child, and related counts; charges were entered or not entered and cases were continued to December. Defendants remain detained on bail as investigators continue.
