A 17-year-old boy drowned Sunday evening after being pulled from shore by a strong ocean current at Hampton Beach. The State Police Marine Patrol received a report at around 6:46 p.m. The teen had been swimming with family members when witnesses said the current pulled him away. The boy's father entered the water to attempt a rescue and became distressed as well. Off-duty State Beach Patrol lifeguards were called back and responded quickly, entering the water to bring both to shore, where lifesaving efforts began. Both were taken to Exeter Hospital; the boy was pronounced dead and the father is in stable condition.
