After CDC cuts, doctors fear women will lose access to contraception research
Briefly

The recent mass firings at the CDC eliminated an eight-person team that produced crucial guidelines for contraception, striking a serious blow to women's healthcare. This team was integral in developing the U.S. Medical Eligibility Criteria for Contraceptive Use, which many healthcare providers relied upon. Clinicians, like Dr. Angeline Ti and Dr. Andrea Braden, expressed their shock at this decision, emphasizing that the guidelines provided invaluable resources that were universally utilized by OB-GYNs and maternal health providers. The elimination of the team raises concerns about the future of accessible contraceptive guidance for patients, particularly for those with specific health conditions.
Busy doctors who are seeing many patients, says Braden, simply do not have time to comb through all the latest medical research. So, the CDC team made recommendations available in an app that doctors could download and easily reference with questions about contraception, including how to navigate the topic for patients with specific conditions and diseases.
I just remember feeling like of all the things I think contraception shouldn't be controversial, says Dr. Angeline Ti.
