Carey Dale Grayson, 50, was executed using nitrogen gas, a controversial method initiated in Alabama earlier this year that replaces breathable air with pure nitrogen gas.
Alabama Corrections Commissioner John Q. Hamm stated that the nitrogen flowed for 15 minutes, with Grayson showing no heartbeat approximately 10 minutes after the gas began.
