"A senior athletics staff member at a Bay Area community college was shot on Thursday afternoon, officials said. The shooting happened around noon at Laney College in Oakland at the Laney Fieldhouse, a sports complex on campus, Mark Johnson, a spokesperson for the Peralta Community College District, told SFGATE. The staff member was transported to a local hospital, he said."
"The San Francisco Chronicle and KGO-TV reported that the person who was shot was Athletic Director John Beam. Johnson was unable to confirm that reporting, and said the district is not releasing the person's name at this time. (The Chronicle and SFGATE are both owned by Hearst but have separate newsrooms.) The campus went under lockdown as officials investigated, and the Oakland Police Department said there is no longer an active threat."
