When Paul Ninson discovered the extensive visual history of Africa in New York, he realized the importance of creating a library of photobooks in Ghana to educate and inspire.
Ninson believes that knowing one's history is crucial for identity, stating, 'A man does not know his true identity when he does not know his history and the background of where he comes from.'
The establishment of the Dikan Center symbolizes a pivotal moment for Ghana, as it aims to equip people with the tools to tell their own stories about Africa.
Despite challenges in pursuing photography as a career in Ghana, Ninson persisted, driven by a passion for storytelling, saying, 'If you tell your parents you're going to be a photographer, it was like, "Yuck, what?" Go be a lawyer.'
