A tragic avalanche in southwestern Colorado claimed the life of a backcountry snowboarder, marking the fourth avalanche-related fatality in the western United States in one week. On Thursday, the snowboarder was caught in an avalanche while traversing a feature known as The Nose near Silverton, while a skiing companion managed to escape. Rescuers intervened but were unable to save the snowboarder. Earlier that week, similar incidents in Oregon and California resulted in the deaths of three others, underscoring the severe risks posed by winter conditions in mountainous regions.
