"'God calls me every day,'"
""He told one of the students, and one of the administration people reported that he said that he was Jewish, although not by Jewish law necessarily, but he thought that he was Jewish, that God talks to him and that's why he's searching,""
""He was very polite sitting there," said the rabbi. "He was totally calm, normal demeanor. No one felt threatened by him.""
Dan Sohail, 36, prayed at Yeshiva Gedola of Carteret and told congregants that God calls him and that he believed he was Jewish. He spoke calmly with students for about an hour and a half and appeared polite and unthreatening. Congregants helped dig his car out of a snowbank after it became stuck in the yeshiva parking lot. Just over 24 hours later, Sohail drove to Brooklyn and repeatedly rammed the side entrance of Chabad World Headquarters with his Honda, sending congregants scrambling and resulting in his arrest on hate crime charges.
