Exclusive | NYC wannabe food influencer still free despite DA seeking bail after latest alleged dine-and-dash stunts
"Prada-loving Pei Chung, 34, was cut loose on supervised release at her arraignment Sunday by Brooklyn Criminal Court Judge Jevet Johnson - despite prosecutors seeking to lock up the accused stingy diner for scamming two more hot spots over the weekend. Brooklyn prosecutors sought $1,500 cash bail or $3,500 bond to keep Chung, a wannabe influencer, behind bars after she allegedly noshed on pricey plates at a pair of posh Williamsburg restaurants Friday into Saturday, then couldn't, or wouldn't, pay."
""If she does this 10 times or more, they could charge her with scheme to defraud, which is a felony," defense lawyer Mark Bederow told The Post on Tuesday. "At least for now, unless she spends over a $1,000 or uses a stolen credit card, they are going to be stuck with misdemeanors and have to deal with her," said Bederow, a former New York City prosecutor."
Pei Chung, 34, allegedly ate at multiple upscale Brooklyn restaurants and left without paying. She was arrested several times since late October for similar conduct, including incidents at a Michelin-starred venue near her luxury high-rise home. Prosecutors sought bail after weekend incidents at two Williamsburg restaurants where she allegedly consumed expensive meals and then could not or would not pay. A Brooklyn judge released her on supervised release despite the bail request. She faces theft-of-services charges, generally misdemeanors, though repeated incidents could trigger felony scheme-to-defraud charges or harsher sentencing.
