Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei Dismisses Trump's Comments On Nuclear Proposal
Briefly

Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, declared that Tehran does not feel pressured by a U.S. proposal regarding its nuclear program, calling President Trump's comments insignificant. Trump's remarks indicated urgency for Iran to respond quickly, citing potential consequences. Meanwhile, Iranian officials state that they have not received any proposals. The backdrop is the ongoing tension following the U.S. exit from the 2015 nuclear deal and recent nuclear talks mediated by Oman, with Iran currently enriching uranium at a high level but insisting its program is peaceful.
“They have a proposal. More importantly, they know they have to move quickly or something bad -- something bad is going to happen,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One.
Khamenei's comment on May 17 came a day after Trump said Washington had made a proposal and that Iran must make a decision on it quickly.
Iran, which is enriching uranium at near weapons-grade level of 60 percent, claims its nuclear program is peaceful and says it is willing to offer assurances to the United States to allay concerns.
Trump withdrew the United States from a multilateral 2015 deal on Iran's nuclear program in 2018, during his first presidential term.
