"Kiffin, after accepting the head coaching job at LSU, said that he wanted to lead the Rebels through the CFP. Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter, however, denied his request "despite the team also asking him to allow me to keep coaching them so they could better maintain their high level of performance," Kiffin said in a social media post. Kiffin's annual salary at Ole Miss was $9 million."

LSU offered a seven-year contract averaging about $13 million per year and pledged financial backing to pay players. Kiffin succeeds Brian Kelly, who was fired midseason after a loss dropped LSU to 5-3.
