National Endowment for the Humanities staff put on immediate leave
Briefly

Late Thursday night, staff at the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) were informed via email of their immediate placement on paid administrative leave. This news followed the termination of NEH grants to 56 state and jurisdiction humanities councils. A senior NEH official disclosed that 80% of the affected staff, comprising 145 members, belong to communication and program management roles. A team from the Department of Government Efficiency had recently increased pressure on NEH, leading to proposed layoffs and program cuts. The union representing NEH employees condemned these abrupt changes, labeling them un-American and unacceptable.
The endowment also supports museums, libraries, preservation, history and media projects through a competitive application process.
The American Federation of Government Employees Local 3403 (AFGE) ... condemns these damaging cuts to people and funding.
A senior NEH official ... confirms that among the 145 staff members 80% of the staff placed on administrative leave are from communications, program officers and directors.
The letter they received this week stated grants were being terminated because the NEH is repurposing its funding allocations in furtherance of President Trump's agenda.
