Newark air traffic control loses contact with pilots in second outage
Briefly

Newark Liberty International Airport experienced a radar system outage lasting 90 seconds early Friday morning, contributing to ongoing issues with delayed and canceled flights. This outage follows a similar incident from April 28 that resulted in multiple flight disruptions and prompted air traffic controllers to report sensors going black. Experts suggest that the outage is due to faulty communications equipment. Congressional leaders, including Senate Minority Leader Schumer, called for urgent fixes to the air traffic control connection between New York airspace and the Philadelphia center, highlighting increasing safety concerns.
"If you care about this, contact your airline and try to get some pressure to fix this stuff," the controller said.
"Our scopes just went black again," the air traffic controller can be heard saying.
Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer called for 'immediate and decisive action' to fix what he described as an 'air travel safety emergency.'
"Enough is enough. The connection between New York airspace and the Philadelphia air traffic control center must be fixed now," Schumer stated.
