Unionized Starbucks workers in Portland remain on strike and will not return until Starbucks resolves labor-practice complaints and returns to bargaining. Roughly 2,000 workers at 95 unionized U.S. locations have been on strike since mid-November, including seven Portland stores and two in Eugene. The strike was timed to coincide with Red Cup Day, one of Starbucks' busiest events. Striking baristas say they are prepared for a long-term action. Starbucks says 99% of its 17,000 U.S. locations remain open, does not expect meaningful disruption, and says it will negotiate if the union returns to the table. The dispute traces back to Buffalo's union vote and has generated numerous NLRB complaints over alleged union-busting tactics.
