Postcards from the Border is a performance project by three Latino artists, aiming to present an authentic view of the Southern border beyond its violent stereotypes. Conceived by writer Oscar Casares as a narrative for his daughter, this work combines music, photos, and spoken word to depict diverse experiences along the border from the perspective of residents. Casares' recounting of personal narratives, like crossing the Rio Grande on a hand-pulled ferry, invites the audience to contemplate the cultural richness and historical significance often overlooked in mainstream media portrayals.
"Hi, Elena. In the little town of Los Ebanos there is no bridge to get to the other side of the river... It feels like the men are pulling you back in time."
"I think I've been sitting on this story for years and years, in the sense that there's something very special about the border that just wasn't being covered in the media."
