Texas is facing an unusual increase in seismic activity, with the US Geological Survey reporting 16 earthquakes within just one day. The largest recorded was a 3.4 magnitude quake, occurring near Odessa, along with a significant 3.0 tremor. April has seen a total of 36 earthquakes in the region, mostly minor, although the recent events stand out due to their relatively higher magnitudes. Authorities are monitoring the situation as it remains fluid and updates are expected.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the latest quake struck just north of Odessa, Texas at 8:14am CT.
Since 4am CT on Wednesday, Texas has experienced 16 minor earthquakes, all along the central and western parts of the state.
In April alone, USGS has recorded 36 earthquakes in this part of Texas, stretching from Stanton, Texas (41 miles northeast of Odessa) to Culberson County.
However, two quakes this morning were larger, the 3.4 magnitude quake and a 2.1 tremor 13 minutes later in the same spot.
