As Harvard University faces legal challenges regarding its ability to enroll international students, business schools in Europe have reported a noticeable increase in applications. Institutions such as HEC Paris and Esade in Spain attribute this rise to uncertainty surrounding US immigration policies. The White House's recent bans and restrictions have prompted prospective students to explore educational opportunities abroad, particularly in Europe, leading to significant spikes in inquiries and applications from regions like Latin America, Canada, and China. This trend is expected to continue as geopolitical tensions shape student choices.
"We have observed the impact of recent US policy shifts, particularly the decision to ban Harvard from enrolling new international students," said Julie Dobiecki, head of media relations at HEC Paris. "Lead generation from the US is up approximately 12%, and by an average of 15% from China, Latin America, and Canada compared to the same period last year."
The uncertainty caused by political and migratory factors is leading many international students to reconsider their academic destination - and Barcelona is a highly valued city in this regard," said Joan Rodón Mòdol, the dean of Esade Business School in Spain.
