U.S. marks 24th anniversary of 9/11 terror attacks
"Even 24 years later, it's heart wrenching,"
"It feels the same way every year."
"educate people on that day, especially the younger generations, and learn from each other how to be resilient and deal with loss and rebuild."
"Younger kids don't realize that you have to remember,"
Commemorations marked 24 years since the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks with solemn ceremonies, volunteer work and tributes honoring nearly 3,000 victims. Loved ones joined dignitaries and politicians at events in New York, the Pentagon and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Family members wearing shirts with names and faces of lost spouses traveled from Staten Island to Lower Manhattan. Survivors and relatives described enduring grief and the importance of teaching younger generations about resilience and remembrance. The anniversary observances included readings of names and moments of silence. Additional security measures were implemented following the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, and some officials adjusted plans to meet his family.
