Police said the driver rammed into the building a total of five times before officers told him to get out of the car and placed him under arrest."

The driver told officers his foot slipped because he was wearing "clunky boots" and lost control. No explosive devices or injuries were reported. The 36-year-old faces multiple hate crime-related charges including attempted assault, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and aggravated harassment. Video shows prior visits to the synagogue and interactions with yeshiva students, and family sources report a history of mental illness. The car is registered in his name and he has no prior NYC criminal record.
