The Republican primary in Virginia is still undecided between Representative Bob Good and his Trump-backed opponent John J. McGuire, with the latter holding a slim lead of around 375 votes out of nearly 63,000 cast. Despite Mr. Trump declaring McGuire the winner, The Associated Press states the race is too close to call, prompting Mr. Good to seek a recount.
Although unusual for a recount to significantly alter the outcome of a race, it is not impossible, with Virginia having a history of small vote corrections after Election Day. Mr. Good would have to bear the cost of the recount as he is trailing McGuire by just above the threshold that triggers state financing for recount.
