Yvonne Jackson, a frequent Target shopper, has not visited the store for six months due to its decision to pull back on diversity and inclusion programs. Previously, Target was a part of her routine, as she often visited to shop and socialize. The changes to Target's supplier diversity program have impacted her and other customers personally. Jackson, a DEI consultant, emphasizes the significance of these initiatives, believing that they support minority business owners and prevent them from being marginalized.
Jackson, who lives on the outskirts of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, said her daughter's daycare was across the street from a Target, so she estimated that she went to Target multiple times a week.
For me, shopping at Target was like a whole experience," she said. But now, Jackson hasn't shopped at Target in approximately six months.
As a Black woman, I feel like we already always get left behind and abandoned," she said.
When asked if she believes other people are still boycotting Target, she said that, at least among her friends, 'anyone who has stopped going to Target has not gone back.'
