Bacon said many Republicans are angry and that following through on threats to take over Greenland would end the presidency. Sen. Mitch McConnell called a potential takeover an unprecedented act of strategic self-harm that would weaken alliances and damage the President's legacy. A Reuters/Ipsos poll showed only 4 percent of Americans support a military takeover of Greenland. Trump denied saying he would acquire Greenland and rebuked a reporter.
