Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that the country will not hold direct negotiations with the United States regarding its nuclear program due to the US's maximum pressure campaign. This announcement followed the imposition of new US sanctions targeting Iran's oil industry, which is vital for its economy. The Iranian leadership, including Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has emphasized the futility of negotiating under conditions of pressure. While Iran is not engaging directly with the US, it has resumed talks with European nations regarding the nuclear deal originally established in 2015.
Iran's position regarding nuclear talks is clear and we will not negotiate under pressure and sanctions, Aragchi said during a televised joint press conference.
There is no possibility of direct negotiations with the US as long as maximum pressure is being applied in this way.
Trump has restored his maximum pressure campaign on Iran that includes efforts to drive the country's oil exports to zero, reimposing a tough policy on Iran.
Earlier this month, Iran's top authority Ayatollah Ali Khamenei also said that talks with the US were not smart, wise, or honourable.
