Vice President JD Vance has defended Elon Musk's ongoing involvement with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and dismissed reports claiming Musk would soon step back from his role. Vance acknowledged that while Musk's position is temporary, he will remain an advisor and emphasized the need for efficiency in government operations. He criticized media reports suggesting Musk's imminent exit as 'total fake news,' affirming that both he and Musk are committed to reducing bureaucracy and associated costs for the American people.
First of all, that report I saw was total fake news. Elon came in and we said, we need you to make government efficient, shrink bureaucracy that thwarts American people and also costs way too much money.
And we said, that's going to take about six months, and that's what Elon Musk signed up for, but of course he will continue to be an adviser. And by the way, the work of DOGE and Elon is not close to done.
